Episode Synopsis
Seamus Harper, working in virtual reality to repair the Andromeda Ascendant, stumbles upon what looks like another “Rommie” Avatar asleep. He informs Rommie of his discovery, which he believes to be a backup copy of Andromeda’s Personality Core. He goes to take a closer look, but something goes wrong. Announcements are issued that the backup is being restored. Rommie and Andromeda both freeze momentarily before being reactivated, this time wearing a different uniform. The backup Avatar demands to know who Harper is, and knocks him unconscious when he fails to respond with a proper authorization code. The backup AI issues an intruder alert.
Captain Dylan Hunt and Beka are surprised when the backup AI fails to recognize them, warning them that if they do not surrender they will be destroyed, and they find themselves trapped in the Officer’s Mess. The backup AI is looking for Captain Perim, the previous commander of the Andromeda who went missing in action a few years before Dylan came along. Trance, hearing the intruder warnings, runs into Command and is confronted by the backup AI and hologram. They order Trance to pilot the ship into Slipstream. Rommie argues with her backup AI and hologram, confused that they don’t recognize her as they are one and the same. They try to contain her, but Rommie still has some control over the ship and goes off to try and find what's wrong.
Back in the Officer’s Mess, Dylan and Beka are relieved when Tyr blasts down the door. The three head for the escape pods as time runs out before the emergency decompression commences. However, Harper has managed to prevent the venting from occurring. He informs the three via intercom of the backup being reinstalled. Meanwhile, Trance is forced to continue piloting Slipstream as Rommie tries to convince the backups that the original crew no longer exists and that many years have passed. The backup hologram begins to consider the possibility that Rommie is telling the truth. The backups are skeptical, however, because of Rev Bem – could the Andromeda crew really be allied with a Magog?
Harper successfully puts a temporary stop on the internal defense mechanisms that have been firing at the crew. Rommie and Dylan speculate that the backups might be following a classified mission. Suddenly, the Andromeda comes under attack by thousands of claw-shaped ships. They realize the attackers are Magog, and Dylan sends Tyr to protect Harper, while he and Beka head for Command to find out who is piloting the ship. Trance tries to change direction of the ship, but the backup AI tells her to stay put. Eerie sounds fill the corridors as the Magog get closer to boarding the ship. Tyr joins up with Harper and they head for a reactor core where Harper thinks he can gain access into the AI’s main memory. Meanwhile, Dylan and Beka gather weapons.
Suddenly, the eerie sounds filling the corridors of the ship are replaced with silence. The Magog launch their internal attack. In one corridor, Beka and Dylan fight off a swarm of the enemy, while in another corridor Rommie fights them off on her own. Tyr and Harper retreat from the Magog in an attempt to get to the reactor core. Meanwhile, Rev Bem launches his own attack on a group of Magog when he is confronted by one named Bloodmist (Gerard Plunkett). He tells Rev Bem to join them, but Rev Bem refuses. Bloodmist is about to kill Rev Bem when Rommie arrives and knocks Bloodmist down. Back in Command, Trance continues piloting in Slipstream. A group of Magog surprise Dylan and Beka. Beka manages to fight them off, but not before Dylan is badly wounded. Harper contacts Dylan and informs him he’s at Andromeda’s memory core, but needs an access code to get in, which Dylan provides. Once inside, Harper is horrified by visions in Andromeda’s memory. He sees visions of the Command full of dead bodies, swarming with Magog. Andromeda appears to be attempting the same mission. Harper starts to reinstall the updated memory of Andromeda when the Magog attack in full force.
Tyr and Harper are paralyzed and dragged away by the Magog. Bloodmist continues in his attempt to lure Rev Bem to their side. Rev Bem attacks, and is shot by Bloodmist. Rommie tries to stop Bloodmist, but instead he grabs hold of her and pins her to the wall thorough her abdomen with a sharp piece of metal. Rev Bem comes to and runs off to find Tyr and Harper, unaware that Rommie needs his help as well. Dylan and Beka finally make their way into Command as Trance pilots out of Slipstream and right into an enormous Magog universe, tens of thousands of miles long with an artificial sun at its core. The backup AI informs Dylan that the world they face is filled with trillions of Magog. From deep within the Magog world, a familiar shadowy figure, with glowing red eyes and pupils made of swirling black holes, watches as an all out assault of Point Singularity weapons are launched at Andromeda. Explosions rip throughout the ship. Both Rommie and the backup hologram faintly call out a Code Red, but no one answers…all on board are unconscious, including Dylan, who lies in Command, bleeding…
